Acronyms and Alphabet Soup

C.E. = short for our Christian Education committee. The Christian Education Committee provides lifelong learning opportunities and experiences to help form members’ identity as spiritual beings living in relationship to God and others; by fostering understanding of the sacredness of life, our connection to creation, and the commitment to learn and follow the values and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. C. Ed. Strategizes, envisions, and evaluates present and future educational programs. Engages in ongoing conversation and planning with the staff about educational programs. Selects and implements Christian education curricula supporting all age groups. Assists with recruitment and mentoring of teachers. Creates and implement all policies related to educational programs. Coordinates festivals and special events related to teaching and celebrating the Christian tradition. Works with other committees, members, teachers, and staff to accomplish an effective educational program for all ages.

CPC = Central Pacific Conference of the United Church of Christ
First Congregational United Church of Christ is a member church of the Central Pacific Conference of the United Church of Christ. The CPC ministers to and provides ministry resources for: Local church lay and clergy leadership, Christian education programs and teachers, Local church program directors, Children, youth and families, and All people concerned about peace and justice in the world. www.cpcucc.org

NiN = Neighbors in Need
This special mission offering supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States, including the Council of American Indian Ministries (CAIM), justice and advocacy, and direct service projects supported by Justice and Witness Ministries. It is received on the first Sunday of October.

OCWM = Our Church’s Wider Mission
This is the name the United Church of Christ gave to congregational gifts that support wider UCC ministry in Conference and national settings. OCWM grows the UCC’s future by funding the Stillspeaking Ministry, new and renewing churches, youth and young adult ministries, and lay and pastoral leadership formation—especially among women and people of color. These ministries are carried out by our church’s Conference (CPC), Local Church Ministries, and the Stillspeaking Ministry.

OGHS = One Great Hour of Sharing
This special mission offering channels resources for international programs in health, education, and agricultural development, emergency relief, refugee ministries, and both international and domestic disaster response, administered by Wider Church Ministries, Global Sharing of Resources. Typically, it is received on the fourth Sunday of Lent.

STC = Strengthen the Church
Strengthen The Church is a special mission offering to reimagine and build the future of the UCC. Shared at the conference and national levels, STC largely supports youth ministries and full-time leaders for new churches in parts of the country where the UCC voice has not been heard. This offering is received on Pentecost Sunday.
