Learn: Kids & Youth!

Join us! We offer regular education, spiritual nurture, and opportunities for worship and service children and youth of the church.

On Sunday mornings during the school, year co-leaders Reverend JJ Crow and Amy Norden, along with volunteer Sunday School Teachers have fun with kids!:

  • 10:00-10:15  All children and youth begin the morning in the worship service in the sanctuary.

  • 10:15–11:00 Preschool-5th grade gather together for Godly Play. Godly Play is based on Montessori Principles and developed using a spiral curriculum. Godly Play celebrates the innate sense of the presence of God in children through story to help children gain religious language and enhance their spiritual experience through wonder and play. On the 1st Sunday of the month, Godly Play is released early in order to let children participate in communion.

  • Youth, ages 6th-12th, stay in the sanctuary on the 1st Sunday for service and communion. On the 2nd-4th Sunday, Youth meet during service for in depth discussion on topics that include but are not limited to: Emotional and Spiritual development and struggles during the teenage years, history of Christianity and the UCC church, what it means to be Christian, as well as current political/ social events that affect our role as a UCC Christian. The Youth are split into two groups: Jr. High (6th-8th grade) and Sr. High (9th-12th grade).

  • 10:15 – 11:00  On 2nd – 4th Sundays all children and youth attend Sunday School.

We have three different groups that meet after service! Kid’s Club (3rd-5th grade) meets on the 1st Sunday of every month. Jr. High (6th -8th grade) meets twice a month. On the 1st Sunday, we have an “off campus” activity. On the 4th Sunday, Jr. High youth combine with the Sr. High for “Game Day”. Sr. High also meets twice a month. On the 2nd Sunday, they have an “off campus” activity and on the 4th Sunday “Game Day” with the Jr. High. Activities for these groups include, but are not limited to: cooking, hiking, movies, service projects, lock-ins and art making. Basically, anything that will help them build a sense of community and friendship.

We also offer multi-generation outings that include: hiking, camping, service projects and other outings. Please visit our “Kid’s and Youth” tab to see the current events!

The senior high youth group also works throughout the year to raise funds for a week of service/mission.  Past mission trips have taken us to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, the Yakama Christian Mission in White Swan, Washington,  Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Mississippi, Amor Ministries in Rosarito Beach Mexico and Amor Ministries on the San Carlos Apache Reservation, Arizona.
